Saving TIFF/JPG and problems with open files in Capture NX

There is a strange behaviour when I scan and save the results in TIFF or JPG:
I use Capture NX software (similar to NIK software) to edit my scans. The first scans in TIFF/JPG I could open and view in my editing software but since yesterday it is impossible to open them (irrespective of size and format). I can open them with GIMP but not with Capture NX any longer. The Capture NX is O.K. because I can still open the scan from before.

What happend to the files or settings?

Dear Mr Hartung,

On the internet I could find several reports of Capture NX misbehaving like this.
But make sure you are using the latest Capture NX update.
The reports are all a little older.

Did you maybe change the bit-depth or colorspace?

Have you tried saving the image with GIMP and loading that image into capture NX?
If not please test if that works.

However if the images open normally I must assume the issue is not with the scanned images themselves but rather related to Capture NX.

Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.

This issue simply could be solved in not saving the scans in grayscale at 16 bit (I expected to do so with B&W negativ) but in color at 24 bit. Somehow Capture NX only accepts color TIFFs or JPGs.

For best result of B&W negative scans with 24 bit color, the settings in Negafix should be "other-other-monochrome". Saturation should be set to "0%".
