densitometer points

I do not have extensive experience so I may be misunderstanding or other wise doing something wrong. But according to my understanding I may have found a bug.

When I use the Pipette tool, I think my actions should manually set points in the scanned image which define the white, black or neutral color points used by SilverFast's automated color optimizing algorithms. However, what I see is the points chosen do not change as a function of my use of the Pipette tool. Is this a bug?

When using the Pipette tool, when a point on the scanned image is chosen, the tool pallet jumps to a new position. I suspect that this behavior is also a bug.

How does setting these points in the densitometer affect later setting values in the histogram? In particular, in the histogram I can set minimum and maximum values of whatever it is that is measured here for red, green, and blue, as well as for the composite of all three color responses. Does manually setting the limits of these responses make up for errors which may have occurred in values chosen for the densitometer?

Thank you for helping me understand how they works, and how to make it work optimally. I have recently been given a set of Kodachrome slides made by a relative in the 1940s. The slides are old and dirty, and have not been stored in optimal conditions so the colors are faded to varying degrees. I have spent a good bit of time trying various scan settings, with remarkably varying results. My work is improving (I tell myself) with experience. The quality of the image I can get when things work well I find impressive. I appreciate your guidance and advice with the powerful tool the Silverfast is.

Dear customer,

The White Point and Black Point tools set the highlights and shadows in the Histogram.
The Neutral Point Pipette is used to remove color casts from areas which should be neutral grey.
You can see the effect in the Histogram dialog.

If you activate or use a tool in SilverFast the according dialog will be shown in the Tool bar.
This is why it moves when you set a neutral point.

You can restore faded images using the ACR tool in the Selective Color Correction (Selective CC) Dialog.

Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
