Hi,
I am new on using scanners and I face a problem scanning B&W films.I always get negative scans that I have to invert through PS. Is there a way to have them inverted through Lasersoft software ?
Thanks

Dear MLoboM
from the title of the thread I deduce you are using the scanning mode 32 bit HDRi greyscale to scan your pictures. That scanning mode creates unmodified raw files which means they will not be inverted.
If you want to have the pictures inverted within SilverFast you have to use the 8 bit greayscale mode or 16 bit greyscale mode (not HDR).
Cheers

Thank you for your prompt reply,
can I submit the inverted images (through PS) to Silverfast HDR studio and then proceed to the image infrared treatment in order to remove dust and scratches. What do you suggest as a "simple" workflow in order to scan and process high quality images from negatives?
Thanks again
Cheers

Dear MLoboM,
If you send your 32 bit HDRi files to photoshop and then open it and save any changes, you will destroy the infrared channel.
The best way is to scan your pictures and send them directly to HDR Studio for positivation and infrared correction. Bear in mind that most black and white films will generate artefacts with the infrared correction because of their silver halide content.
Cheers

If infared is not going to work with Black and white negatives, then why offer it as an option? I was thinking that in V8 you may have developed a new way to use infared to work the same magic on Black and White that it does on color negatives and slides. Hope springs eternal you know!

There are chromogenic black and white films, infrared can be applied to this kind of films.

You can not change physical characteristics of film emulsions with a software application.
Kind regards
