Linear Profile?

Quite new to all this, just got back a whole bunch of processed film.

Selecting:

Vendor: <other>
Film type: <other>
leaves an option in ASA ISO: <Linear>

Can someone just explain to me what that actually means? I'm finding that on a particular roll of Fujichrome T64 cross-processed it's giving me a perhaps more desirable result in particular photos.

Also, seeing as how there are no profiles for Cross-Processed film, and if there are no future plans for it, is there a reason why you couldn't make custom, user-created film profiles interchangeable between all scanners and versions of Silverfast?

Cheers.

Dear Alex,

That is the standard setting in the NegaFix dialogue where you have options to select the film manufacturer and the type of emulsion as well as the sensitivity (if the emulsion you are working with comes in different sensitivities).

There are no plans for developing profiles for cross processed films. To create each of the profiles you find in the NegaFix dialogue, it is necessary to use a special target created under completely controlled conditions in all stages. Those targets have special information needed for the program to create the curves (over normal and under exposed) for every film emulsion.

Since the cross process is more of an experimental process or an accident it involves too many variables which makes it a hard tast. That is also the reason why we have equiped SilverFast Ai or Ai Studio with the expert dialogue to allow users their own creation and manipulation of the own profiles.
