Hi there!

I'm still dubitating when using Negafix in HDR mode.
I'm B/W photographer and I've greats results in 48bits HDR color, then invert and convert to grayscale in my pics editor.
I'm using Silverfast AI and a nice Lacie Bluescan 48.

I'm trying to use several profiles when using a film that is not profiled:
- trying linear or monochrome
- trying to edit a new profil
- triyng some existing profils

Well, except very little difference, due to some unverifiable random factor,
48bits .TIF seems to be the same, where 16bits embended huge differences beetween profiles…
In fact there is no difference beetween grayscalized "linear" and, for example, "polaroid 200" .tif.
But only "monochrome" show a slightly better result than all others…

Please cancel or confirm:
-48 bits HDR is a true real raw mode without any negafix effect ?

What do you think about… ??

Yes, NegaFix is a true 48 bit unmodified raw TIFF mode.

This means NegaFix will not have any effects on your end-scan, no profile will be applied to your scanned pictures so you can later work with your favorite editing application.

Bear in mind that scanners work in a different ways when scanning positives and negatives, basically because negatives have an orange mask (some black and white films have a dark blue or violet mask). So make sure you scan in 48 bits HDR using the Negative mode for negatives and Positive for slides.

Yes M.Morales, that exactly what i'm doing.

The ideal way for best raw seems to be "48HDR - negative mode - mask adjustement".

The only is, "why am I seeing difference in my .tif between some negafix profil, where i'm supposed to have the same result"… argh…

There should not be any changes between them because, as I explained, when scanning with HDR mode, no effect (including NegaFix profiles) will be applied to your endscan.
There is only one exception in this case, this happens when opening the "options" dialogue, under the "general" tab there is one field for the gamma value, next to it there is one checkbox "for HDR output".

If you have this option active, it will put the respective gamma value to your endscan. If the gamma value is changed, it will of course be different than the previous scan.

Other than that, NegaFix should have no influence in the endscan while scanning in HDR mode.

Hi I have just completed two scans on my Tango in HDR. One was a simple straight forward scan and for the second scan I chose a Neg Fix film type and then made a distinct change to the colour by using the sliders in the option box under the negafix. When they were opened in the HDR program they were very different. This suggests to me that the HDR is not a raw scan and that it is being influenced by the profiles of NegaFix?...

Hi...I scanned 2 images on a Tango using HDR...one without any changes and the other I was able to select a different film type and adjust the colours. When they were opened in the HDR program ready for processing they were different colours which suggests to me that Negafix has a direct effect on the HDR scan which should be a raw file.

It would be really helpful (and nice) if you could upload some pictures of the "affected" images and one without any adjustments, as well as some screenshots of your configuration in SF. In that way we could better understand your case.
