I updated to SF Ai 5.5 just yesterday after using the SE version (Windows) for several months with a Microtek Scanmaker-5. I cannot seem to find a way to turn off ALL automatic correction when scaning negatives. If I close the NegaFix window the sofware reverts to positive transparency mode.

The SE version allowed for fully manual correction, but when I move the selection rectangle around within the scan frame, I see changes taking place. I have tried both the PhotoShop plug in and Twain versions with the same result.

The Owner's manual makes no mention of NegaFix but instead describes the way negatives were handled in the previous version. While I appreciate automatic correction, I often want complete manual control. What am I missing here.

Thanks.

Well, I finally figured it out.

Since I have whined about what appeared to be a problem, I thought I owed everyone the courtesy of saying that I found the solution and all is well. The check box for "auto" is on by default in the NegaFix "Expert" (I certainly was NOT) dialog.

I finally stumbled onto it a while ago.

I suppose I could complain that this was not at all obvious in the absence of any NegaFix documentation.

Will there be a document, pdf or otherwise, on the finer points of NegaFix?

Thanks

NegaFix Automatic on/off (Auto Orange Mask Removal)

The NegaFix Orange Mask Removal automatic is active by default and will be invoked evertime you change or move the selection marquee .
When you click on the Expert button (only available in the full SilverFast version) in the NegaFix panel, you will get the NegaFix Expert dialog, which lets you alter the orange mask removal process by means of a histogram.
Once you change the end points of the histogram, the orange mask automatic will be switched off. Below the histogram you will see a check box where you can switch the orange mask automatic on or off!
There will be a NegaFix Manual.PDF tomorrow for download, explaining the Expert mode in detail.
