HELP: No Negafix profiles on SE

I recently upgraded photoshop from v7.0 to CS V9.0, and decided to re-install Silverfast SE (that came with epson 4990 scanner). Now I can't do any negative scanning (and it's not the scanner, as it works fine with the Epson Scan software). It gives a completely blank (black) image where the negative image is. I can do a positive scan of the negative, and this produces the expected result (i.e. 'negative' colour image).
I'm wondering if it is related to the fact that now in Negafix, there are no profiles for anything. The manufacturer and film windows show <other>, with Delete and <import> being the only other options, and the ISO window is blank (and I cannot write to it).
Any suggestions?

fahey,
As a first step I would say to download and install the latest version of SilverFast. If the problem is still there contact LaserSoft technical support via their online support form.
I have an Epson 4990 as well, but I am using AI 6 Studio.

almost the same happened to me today. still in photoshop 7 though. there were no negative film profiles and i got the black scan. went and downloaded the update and installed it. it added a seperate silverfast import name. a little confusing so i went and used control panel to uninstall all silverfast components and then reinstall the update. as usual, i rebooted just because. works fine from photoshop after that.
hope this helps.
later,
phil
Thank you both

Thank you both for your input. I too went through the re-install procedure from scratch, and then downloaded the latest version (6.4.3r6 at the time), and it now works OK.
Since then, I received this from their technical support:
Dear Mr Fahey
the new 6.4.3r8 package is online. Please try that one.
Kind regards

I updated to that version a few days ago without complications. I used the web update function because I did not want to type in my license and then download it manually (I like this feature!).

Hi all,
I decided to jump into this thread, as my problem resembles this the most.
I'm using the Epson Perfection 3200, together with AI Studio. I was using version 6.4.1r8c, but I wanted to try an update to the latest version 6.4.4r2. I was a bit hesitant about this, because I noticed earlier that somewhere from version 6.4.2 scanning with my scanner got significantly slower (like 2x slower). BTW, that might be a subject for an other thread; maybe some other people have the same problem.
Anyway, also this version 6.4.4r2 seemes to be quite slow, so I wanted to go back to 6.4.1r8c to really make sure. Since then I got the problem this thread is about: no more film types to choose from in the 'Negative' dialog, and completely black negative preview/scans. When I update to v6.4.4r2 the problem is solved. But..... I'd rather stick to version 6.4.1r8c because of its higher speed (I like very high resolution, 16x multiscan. 6.4.1r8c does a scan in 45 min. and the later versions 1.5-2 hours).
Someone knows what to do? Whether it is speeding up the newer version, or getting the old one back to work again....
Thanks already!

I just upgraded from 6.x to the latest 6.4.4r3fg and I'm now having this problem. I can't do any negative scanning at all- I just get all black, and NegaFix shows no profiles to choose from. I can't find where the profiles file exists to try to tell it to reload the profiles. I'm using SilverFast AI stand-alone with a Microtek i900.
I tried re-downloading and re-installing this update, and it didn't help. Negative was is still completely broken.
Then I tried deleting everything silverfast related from the computer- the Lasersoft Imaging folder from user preferences, the whole Silverfast folder from Appications, the plugins. I then reinstalled. This time Silverfast came up with nothing in the first two fields of the NegaFix window, where you usually select the Manufacturere and Film. But surprisingly, the ISO field came up with a list of (apparently) all possible manufacturer-film-ISO combinations. I thought this was weird. So I selected my combination, and it appeared to correct the preview pane. I then had to rebuild my frame sets, since I'd deleted my user profile. When I tried copying and pasting a frame, Silverfast crashed. When I relaunched it, now the NegaFix window is working correctly, the way it used to, with the Manufacturer, Film Type, and ISO each working in their respective fields. The problem appears to be fixed.
