1. I'm sorry to grip about the same problem, but after scanning various negs for the past several days, I'm just at the end of my rope dealing with the terrible results from Silverfast AI (negafix).

2. Problem: I've noted before and I continue to get an overt reddish cast to my scans. I've sent images to silverfast, which they've acknowledged was abnormal (in terms of the color cast), yet they've done nothing. I know that it's related to silverfast because of one simple fact--> i've used the SAME negative image--> scanned with an old version of silverfast vs current version of silverfast and the current version gives terrible results; all other variables are the SAME. the only reason i'm not using the older version of silverfast is because it doesn't have SDR.

3. Other pertinent data:
a. Silverfast ai 6.2 1r5
b. Mac 10.3, G4 cpu
c. Kodak Royal Gold 100 (Fuji profiles are even worse)
d. My monitor is properly callibrated.
e. I've read the silverfast manual, I have Taz Tally's Silverfast book, I've read LSI president's note on how to use negafix--> thus I'm fairly sure that I'm doing the correct workflow. However, I'm open to any ideas etc... I am able to correct the color cast via the "global color correction". However, I think it's reasonable to expect that a "professional" product like silverfast should give decent results out of the box.

we tried, but we could not find the colour cast you descibed. Perhaps it belongs to the film / scanner you are using?? Anyway, you can easily remove the colour cast :

open NegFix : Choose the film type and exposure of the used film strip> adjust the image with respect to its exposure with the slider in NegFix - open the NegFix expert dialog (user interface elements ) >> choose Curves >> start editing a film curve ( hit the pencil button ) >> select all channels ( the black square below " Curves " ) >> move the mouse pointer to a point of the prescan which should be " white " or " grey " and click on it >> the NegFix expert window will show now additional the hue and saturation of the choosen point >> click and hold on this small point with the mouse arrow and draw it down to the bottom. You will see the change at the prescan. If you are satisfied, save these changes for processing the other images of the film strip.

I know just what he's talking about. I tried to scan some negatives with my Espon 3200 perfectiona, Mac G5 dual, and Photoshop or Silverfast interface. The negatives/image had a heavy orange cast, grainy, and lots of defects showing up everywhere.

The problem? I was scanning in Reflective mode with the white background of the flatbed causing a problem with white balance. (I suspect the defects I was getting were from the white backing for the flatbed scanner)

The solution?
Remove the white backing of the scanner as you would for doing slides. Use Silverfast SE (other whatever) in transparency mode, use the negative setting, and bingo, the negative scan worked prefect.
