What about older Kodak negatives?

I have only been a SilverFast 5.5 Ai user for one week and have just upgraded to Version 6. I would appreciate some clarification regarding NegaFix profiles for older 35mm Kodak films, e.g. Kodacolor, Kodacolor II and Ektar.

There must be billions of such negatives in existence so why has LSI not already developed NegaFix profiles? LSI's list of Kodak profiles seems to cover only a fraction of Kodak's products. I cannot believe that I am the only person who is interested in digitising a long term collection of negatives.

If an existing expert SF user has already created such profiles is there any way for them to be shared with other users?

Mr Engelhardt,
Your reply merely tells me where to find the limited list of Kodak profiles that caused me to raise this topic in the first place!!!

I would appreciate answers to the two questions I have raised:

1. Why has LSI not already developed profiles for at least the most popular of the older Kodak negatives?

2. If an existing expert SF user has already created some suitable profiles is there any way for them to be shared with other users?

I am aware of the NegaFix FAQ item that addresses the question of missing profiles for older films and requests some very specific 48 bit scans to enable LSI to construct such profiles. I would help here if I could, but my Epson 1640XL only provides 42 bit scans.

It does seem very surprising that we are now at version 6 of SF and yet we still have none of the older Kodak profiles. It does not look as if LSI is trying very hard to help users with a lifetime's worth of negatives and makes it less likely that I will eventually buy a Nikon LS4000 or 8000 with SF (the Epson 1640XL is mainly intended for proofing purposes).

It is now almost 2 weeks since I raised my original 2 questions. Neither of them have yet been answered. I realise that this is the time of year when many people may be on holiday, but surely someone from LSI is still monitoring these forums?

The Negafix FAQ for missing profiles (suggesting to scan 48 bit raw data files) is also valid for you. Your Epson Expression 1640XL with 42 bit is sufficient for that (48 bit is just mentioned as an example; we mainly want to have raw data files with the maximum bit depth of the scanner). So if you could send us the scans mentioned in the Negafix FAY for missing profiles, we will try to build a profile for you (and all other users).

Ralf, thanks for reacting quickly to my last post!

I would be happy to send you 42 bit scans as suggested, but this may take me some time to arrange. I will have to make some progress with my planned proofing and organising of my old negs before I can select suitable negs for your purposes.

However, you still have not actually answered the two questions I raised! The first question merely asks for an opinion on why it is taking so long for LSI to deal with older neg profiles (am I alone in wanting these?). The second question is a simple technical query.
