What does it matter

So I am scanning Kodak Panatomic-X black and white film for which there is no NegaFix profile. I read somewhere that someone used Tri-X profile, so thats the one I'm using. But it is ASA 400 and the Panatomic-X is 32. I am now using "Other, Other, Monochrome" with Exposure and Tolerance set all the way to the right. Anyone have any suggestions for a better approach? Does it matter? I feel that all the scans come out too dark.
