PlusTek OpticFilm 7300 on Windows 7-64bit not working

Hello, I hope someone on this forum will be able to help me.
I've just upgraded to a new computer (Windows 7, 64bit) and am having difficulties getting my PlusTek OpticFilm 7300 scanner to work with my new computer.
I was under the impression that it was important to install the OpticFilm 7300 driver before installing any SilverFast software, so I downloaded the latest OpticFilm 7300 driver (version V3.2.0.1) and installed it (and rebooted my PC).
Once that has installed, it brings up an 'error' message saying "SilverFast is not found in this system, please make sure it has been installed correctly".
I was going to install SilverFast SE Plus from my installation CD (that came with the scanner), but I noticed that there is a newer version of this software, and in any case, the older version (6.5) wouldn't work with 64 bit windows. So, I downloaded the latest version of Silverfast (SFen-6.6.2r5 - compatible with 64 bit windows) and installed that (and rebooted my PC again).
I was careful to ensure my OpticFilm 7300 was NOT switched on when installing the SilverFast software (in accordance with the instructions).
Silverfast appears to install correctly - as it appears in the start menu. However, when I run it and try to connect to my OpticFilm 7300 it says "There was no scanner found!"
I have tried repeatedly uninstalling and reinstalling the SilverFast software. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the OpticFilm 7300 drivers.
I have tried installing the SilverFast software before I install the drivers, and I have tried installing it after the drivers. I cannot get the two of them to recognise one another.
I must admit, I wasn't sure if I needed the TWAIN version of the SilverFast software or not, so I have tried downloading and installing both the TWAIN version and the non-TWAIN.
Can anyone help me? A set of simple step-by-step instructions on the order that other people do this, that works for them, might be a good starting point.
Thanks enormously in anticipation. There is a virtual cold beer on the bar for anyone who can help me resolve this.
