maintaining version 6.6 when installing version 8

Hello, in the upgrade confirmation email's Q&A it says:
-A. You can have two different versions of SilverFast installed on the same computer. However, you should NOT try to run them at the same time.

This is very good as I'm afraid the interface/icons of version 8 will be too small etc., and I might find it easier to work with 6.6 in the end.

But..when I run Plustek's driver installation for this version, it prompts to uninstall the existing software for the scanner, and in the upgrade email it notes that the 6.6 serial number is no longer active "
Your old serial number is not valid anymore.

so if I choose to revert to 6.6, I won't have the option of reinstalling it as the serial number was deactivated. So how can people run two different versions on the same computer?

Thanks, Donna

Hi there

It is technically possible to have both versions installed in the same machine.

That is correct, since you've got the upgrade to SilverFast 8 for free, your serial number for SilverFast 6 was invalidated. It means that you can not access the download area using that serial number anymore. however if you leave SilverFast 6.6 installed in your machine, that should not be a problem.

Cheers

Alejandro hello,

Was apprehensive, but went ahead and installed the drivers even though having to confirm
Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all of its features?

made me a bit queasy..

It wasn't intuitive, but when the application simply closed when I clicked the start icon, looked elsewhere and clicked the service icon. Chose the first option for the serial number. Was prompted to enter the SilverFast CD of the previous version and the only option was to click the install pilot. I was tired out by the recursive loop of it installing support files and then the UScan, and no installation successful completed screen was provided, so in the end simply clicked Quit. Usability-wise you can tell that it hasn't been a good experience.

SilverFast 8 doesn't run, and I didn't uninstall the 6.6 version from my machine, but nevertheless, it doesn't work either. At this point am not happy.

Donna

You only need to install SF from the CD once.

Are you installing it on a Mac or windows?

Alejandro hi,

My computer runs on Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit.

During the weekend had tried installing SilverFast again, and this time one round, but still no joy. Even though now UScan of the 6.6 version does work, but I don't work with it--I want to work with the Ai Studio. (For this I paid extra..)
