Hi there,

we have SilverFast v5.5.5.1r04 (bundled with
a Microtek ScanMaker 9600XL). I've installed
the Twain Module under the admin account of Win2k and everything is ok. when using it via PhotoShop or another TWAIN-capable app. But when another user is logged in he has to
enter the serial number everytime the TWAIN module is started up. Seems that this data
was not stored due to some access right mismatch, but where/what/why? Please help
Regards,

Olaf Lautenschlaeger

Dear Mr. Lautenschlaeger,

You need to install the plug-in again for the user. Every user can only unlock the SilverFast plug-in, he installed.

Hi again,

did you change this behaviour with the current
update v5.5.2?

After installing it (in form of the Windows
PhotoShop PlugIn) the user has NOT had to re-
install something nor applying the regcode.

The solution is to give all users full acces to the import-export folder of Photoshop.

Sorry, LSI is completly wrong...

Mr. Lautenschl?ger was asking for help on problems with the TWAIN module - not the PS-plugin.
The answer of Mr. Kratzenberger is also wrong. I got the same answer some month ago. I gave LSI feedback by email on this question, but it seems that nobody noticed it - or they don't use an internal knowledge base for support.

On a Windows system there's just one twain and one PS-plugin folder for all users. Silverfast dosn't use the registry for user specific settings. So how could this problem be solved by an individual installation for each user? The data is always installed in the same folders and there aren't any user specific changes made.
Silverfast twain is installed to "windows\twain_32". Silverfast needs read-/ write access for all users for the "Lasersoft" folder and its subfolders. Change the permission settings and the problem is gone.
I hope this time LSI will store this information - and improve the installer of further versions of Silverfast.
Regards,
Hoheisel

...when using Windows XP Pro, you also have to disable "simple filesharing" before you're able to set the permissions (see example below)

serial number not stored for regular user

These hints apply to Windows 2000 and XP Pro.
If you're using Macintosh OS X and have different user accounts, you'd have to set the write permissions of the Photoshop/ plugins/import-export folder to "all users" and also apply this setting to all subfolders.
