A month ago I bought a Plustek 7600iSE scanner, to convert slides to digital, which, as you know was bundled with Silverfast 6.6. I use Windows XP Home SP3. I have Adobe Audition and Reader but not Photoshop. I normally log in to XP as a "limited user" for security reasons. I have a Canon 4200F scanner (bundled with the excellent Arcsoft 5.5, which I have used extensively) attached permanently to a USB socket. I do not know if I have SCSI - the only reference on Belarc Adviser is "Sony SCSI Helper service 1.0"
I had fairly good results scanning slides on the 4200F, but the procedure was slow and fiddly, so I bought the 7600i. Unlike the 4200F, I intend to connect the 7600i only when I need to use it.
My initial experiments with the 7600iSE were at least as good as the 4200F, although I do not believe I installed Silverfast correctly. Whenever I logged on to my computer I got a dialog "Silverfast is not found in the system; please check that it has been installed correctly." I re-read your readme and researched the website and have tried to re-install. First I looked in "Control Panel" and "All Programs" to see if there was anything to uninstall, but found nothing. I then re-inserted the disk but the installation failed to complete as I had forgotten to log in as administrator. I changed the log in and strarted again, selected the "TWAIN plug-in option" and, after accepting the licence agreement, left the "SCSI Drivers (ASPI)" box unchecked.
The installation appeared to finish OK, but I still get the dialog "Silverfast is not found in the system; please check that it has been installed correctly." whenever I log on. Can you advise what I have done wrong, if anything?

Re: Silverfast "not found"
Dear WHCman
You've done nothing wrong. That message is not produced by SilverFast but by the scanner driver, and it is produced because it can not find SilverFast in the system. Probably updating the driver to it's latest version might help you with that message.
Cheers

Re: Silverfast "not found"
Thanks for the explanation - this makes sense. However I still have the problem. I installed the latest drivers for Plustek (which I had already, any way), then uninstalled Silverfast again in safe mode. It seemed possible from your readme that the Canon scanner could be causing a problem, so I disconnected that, connected and switched on the Plustek scanner and tried to install Silverfast for about the fifth time. I was surprised that, as with previous installation attempts I was not prompted at any time to put in the serial number during the installation process, but the installation appeared to be finish OK.
However, the error message persists and I believe that Silverfast is not installed. Either I have done something wrong, or I have been supplied with faulty software.

Re: Silverfast "not found"
dear WHCman,
As I explained before this is not caused by SilverFast, in this case you should get in touch with Plustek and inform that you are having this issue, perhaps the colleagues there might provide you a solution for this.
Actually you are never prompted for the serial number during the installation process of SilverFast. The number will be asked after you have completed the installation and open the software for the first time. After that the serial number is stored deep into your system, following installations or updates will not require the serial number anymore.
Cheers
