Installation and set up probs in Brisbane Australia..

Postby Martin Timothy » Tue Jul 06, 2010 6:45 am

Hi all my name is Martin,

I wish to use the Silverfast program that came with the Plustek OptikFilm 7200i I purchased in Brisbane Australia in 2008, back then it worked great, since then however after the program needed to be reinstalled, and after I followed the installation procedure and registered the Silverfast software, the computer tells me it can't, or it wont use it.

I have reinstalled both CD's several times, Presto Page Manager and Presto Image Folio 4 loaded while Silverfast just keeps prompting me to insert the CD.

However there is only one image that I need to process,

http://mcadams.posc.mu.edu/moorman/3Moo ... Frame5.jpg

The above link goes to a computerized copy of a Polaroid shot taken by Mary Moorhouse in Dallas Texas, 22 November 1963, there is a group at the extreme left behind the picket fence and I am sure that Silverfast will reveal a lot more!

Perhaps a more experienced Silverfast user might like to process the image as a test file, or indeed recommend which version I should purchase to obtain the best results, or indeed direct one toward the correct installation procedure for my current version 6-5.

Cheers MT

SilverFast does not have anything to do with Presto manager nor Presto Image folio. The message you mentioned has to do with the serialization, the original SilverFast CD must be inserted into the computer before starting the program to be able to serialize SilverFast. You must also start your computer session using an administrator's account.

I am wondering if I misunderstood or missed something, you mentioned the picture you want to analyse is a Polaroid, however your scanner is a film scanner. Or is it a picture shot using polaroid film?

They turned up on the same discs that came with Plustek OptikFilm 7200i and Silverfast.

I dunno what you mean, mine is a home setup and there is no "administrators account" per se the installation procedure starts with connecting the device to the computer, whence one is prompted to follow the instructions, I do it all then Silverfast just keeps prevaricating!

Seems pretty straight forward to me

Dear Martin,

This is probably due to the fact that the installation CD included with your scanner was created by Plustek under royalties.
Anyway the CD must be in the computer drive before starting the program.

Even in home installations you will find different types of accounts, the normal users and the administrator of the computer (the one person who installs the program, etc). Please make sure you create a user account with administrator rights, then restart the computer using that account, then insert the original installation CD and proceed to serialize the software, also make sure you do not have other scanner units connected to the computer, only the Plustek 7200i

Well, the SilverFast application you've got with your scanner is just a scanning software, you can not process digital images with that application (if that is your intention). You can only operate your scanner to digitize pictures, and since your scanner is a film scanner and you mentioned something about a polaroid, I wonder how do you plan to scan a polaroid picture with your film scanner?

We do however have another application toopen and work with digital images, the application is SilverFast HDR Studio, if you are interested in testing it, you can download the demo version on our homepage.

Thanks for the reply Alejandro,

A demo version of SilverFast HDR Studio which came with the Plustek OptikFilm 7200i / Silverfast package I bought in 2008, which I used to upload images from my computer and then process, was the program I have been trying to load.. no wonder I was goin' around in circles!

I will search for an Australian distributor and purchase the latest version, Regards MT.
