updating multiple installations (for multiple scanners)

I have multiple scanners and have purchased various versions of the SilverFast application to work in conjunction with each (Nikon CoolScan5000ED, Epson Perfection 3200, and now an Epson Perfection V750-MPro). The three scanners are located in two different places (office and home). I just installed the software from the CD for the latest Epson Perfection V750-MPro (v. 6.5.0r4e), then checked for updates and found that there is a more recent version (v. 6.60r4c). The update says I should UNINSTALL previous version before installing. I learned from other entries in this forum that there is NO UNINSTALL for Mac OSX--users are supposed to manually remove files and folders named SilverFast and LaserSoft from Application, Plug-in, and Library/Preference Folders. How do I go uninstalling the material linked with the most recent scanner? I don't want to loose the settings that I have worked so hard to create for the other scanners!

Please advise.

Dear jir,

In the case of a Mac there is no uninstallation routine. You do not have to uninstall the programm before installing the updates because the program will overwrite itself automatically. Your preferences however, will remain in the "Preferences" folder.

Normally there are changes between different versions of SilverFast and old preferences might be the cause of erratic behavior or malfunctioning, you can make a backup copy of your preferences (or at least those of you want to keep) and erase them. You can then place back those files with your preferences to see if they do not have any conflict with the newest version and leave them there.

The individual preferences for every scanner are to be found at:

Mac/Users/Your name/Library/Preferences/LaserSoft Imaging/SilverFast/Prefs

After making a copy of the desired files and put those somewhere else in your computer, you can install the updates of SilverFast and then erase the entire "LaserSoft Imaging" folder (all this while SilverFast is not running) , when you start SilverFast the next time it will put the folder with the standart settings again, you can then open it and paste a copy of the backed-up files in the same place where they where originally located.
