Microtek scanner not found

I reinstalled SilverFast AI because some of the functions were not functioning - i.e. I couldn't select more options for naming files in batch mode, the pull-down menus wouldn't pull down. After the new installation SilverFast cannot find my scanner (Microtek Scanmaker i900). I have checked all the connections, disconnected and reconnected the fire wire, reinstalled all the scanner software, reinstalled (again) SilverFast, and tried all sorts of manipulations while reading through the FAQs. All has been to no avail. I have a Power Mac G5 with OSX (10.4.8). Any suggestions?
