I haven?t used SilverFast for a while so it?s not installed on my

Mac OS X 10.4.7 for my Minolta 5400

I?ve downloaded a fresh copy of SFE-6.4.4r3g(Minolta) but I can?t make it install.

Is this a full copy of the application or just an update?

The install process for this file don?t follow the instructions - mabe because its a download not the CD?

Anyway, before I ask why I can?t get SilverFast to work - did I download the correct file? Or where is the correct file?

I have a licence for SilverFast Ai V6 (Minolta 5400)

Thnaks!

::EDIT::

Looking at SF Launcher, it says

Plugin: SliverFast (Minolta) (E-6.4.4r3fg Serial)

Telling SF Launcher where my plugin directory is (Applications/SilverFast Application) always produces this result. Photoshop then complains it can?t deal with this plugin.

Anyway, the Minolta 5400 is a FireWire scanner, not Serial. Do I have a Serial plugin here?

Hello? I?m not getting any replies here or from support, maybe a German holiday I don?t know about...

Anyway, here?s what happens after I try to install SilverFast and run the application.

When I go through the install process I am informed that the install location will be

Code: Select all

?The folder ?Profiles? will be created in the folder ?Applications? on the disc ?MacintoshHD?

This doesn?t happen, the folder ?SilverFast Application? is created in ?Applications?.

I continue the install and it searches for Photoshop, as expected, and everything seems fine. I get message the software was successfully installed.

Now I launch SF Launcher from the icon created in my Dock. It says the plugin is

Code: Select all

SilverFast (Minolta) (E-6.4.4r3fg Serial)

and that the folder is

Code: Select all

MacintoshHD:Applications:SilverFast Application

Open automatically is ticked. I click ?start? - nothing happens...

Then after moment I get a ?save? dialog asking for a location to save ?BatchPict.tif?. I click ?Save? to the default ?Documents? folder and get a message

Code: Select all

Empty JPEG image (DNL not supported)

with an OK button which I have to click. Photoshop CS2 then opens - as if by magic... and tells me

Code: Select all

Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file

And that?s me stuck in the SilverFast infinity loop. How do I get out of it? I?ve tried trashing all SilverFast and Lasersoft files from the Mac and reinstalling. At one point I had a message that no scanner was connected - but that was a fib.

Thanks for any help or feedback.

Dear Mr Gordon

Full install, no prior version installed necessary.

> The install process for this file don't follow the instructions.

Differs how?

> did I download the correct file?

Looks like you did.

> Photoshop then complains it can't deal with this plugin.

I guess you double-clicked it? Then PS wants to load it as an image file. Won't work. SF is an import plugin and needs to be called via the "File" -> "Import" menu of PS.

> Anyway, the Minolta 5400 is a FireWire scanner, not Serial.

This connotation is not about a serial port connection to the scanner. Don't worry. I think you got the correct software, however, it surely looks (judging from the SF_Logfile you sent me) that the scanner isn't found by SilverFast - however, sadly there's no indication of the source of the problem, yet.

It's because the imaging forum is not about supporting contact to LSI staff primarily, although we are actively participating.
First of all, however, we'll deal with standard support request done by use of the problem report form before we are going to have a look into the forum.
That's more than anything intended to be a place for exchange of ideas and experiences of imaging professionals.

That's okay. It should do this for OSX systems.

Now, that's an original problem. SF starts, and automatically saves and image being seemingly an 48 bits of colours JPEG file, because you get

> Empty JPEG image (DNL not supported)
> with an OK button which I have to click. Photoshop CS2 then opens -
> as if by magic... and tells me

Pretty weird. Haven't heard any similar complaint at all up to now.
Let's see how we can deal with that one.

Had you been deleting the folder
/Users/(your username)/Library/Preferences/LaserSoft Imaging
while SilverFast (not even the SF_Launcher) wasn't running?

If not, please try to do so.

And please don't have a holder inside the scanner when starting up SF.

Thanks in advance for your co-operation.
