Launcher opens for about 1 second and then closes itself

Hi,

I have problems with starting SilverFast. When I open the "Launcher" it shows its start screen/picture/initialization of the scanner for about 1 sencond and then closes automatically. SilverFast is not started.

I have an Epson 4990 Perfection Photo

It worked fine befor I tried the following:

1. I installed SilverFast --> was working --> program started correctly

2. I tried to download a newer version
2.a deinstalled the installed older version
2.b installed the newer version --> not working because my serial (OEM version from Epson??) is not acceped
2.c I deinstalled the newer version

3. installed the older version from the CD Epson attached.
----> not running, starting failed like I described above

4. I deinstalled the version

5. Used the "System restore" (german: Systemwiederherstellung) with a recovery point from yesterday

6. installed the version again --> not working/starting.

Who can help me with the problem? Thanks a lot.

Hi Pfanni,

Have you tried deleting the Silverfast prefs? That's standard operating procedure when one runs into a quirk with the program. RAG has helped many people on the forums here and this is a quote from one of his previous posts:

"A: Solution:
It often helps to reset SilverFast's settings to the state immediately after installation of SilverFast software

SilverFast on Macintosh Systems:
-- SF as Photshop module
<> ...Adobe Photoshop / Plug-ins / Import-Export / SilverFast(<>) / SilverFast / Prefs
-- SF as TWAIN module
"Preferences" folder of current system / TWAIN / SilverFast / Prefs

SilverFast on Windows Systems:
-- SF as Photoshop module
<> ...Adobe Photoshop / Plug-ins / Import-Export / SilverFast / Prefs
-- SF as TWAIN module
<> / Windows or WinNT / TWAIN_32 / LaserSoft / SilverFast / Prefs

Please follow your path down to the "Prefs" folder and delete the entire "Prefs" folder. This will erase all saved SilverFast settings and will set your SilverFast back to the state before the first-time launch. Restart your application."

Thanks for your suggestion. But that was not the problem.


I found another solution and now it works fine:

I should have opened my eyes ;)
I found a solution within the forum:
viewtopic.php?p=15441

I only had to delete the Silverfast prefs in:
"..Document and Settings\your_name\application data\lasersoft imaging\silverfast"

Great job, Pfanni; thanks for pointing me to that link. rtway's post reminded me of that issue with USB 1.1. He states:

"Problem appears to have been due to an older USB hub (1.1). Once disconnected it worked fine. (Just use the newer USB 2.0 hub now)."

I remember having that same problem a long time ago on my Epson 3200 Pro (I think I had my scanner plugged into my monitor's hub).... forgot all about it until now.

Hi, having the exact same problem using version 2.0.7 on windows xp.

Ive used this program for well over a year with no problems and then suddenly this! It basically opens for a mere second and then all the windows disappear and the program closes. Ive tried system restore, along with deleting as many silverfast files i could find (minus registry keys - i dont know how) and reinstalled about 4 times.

the only difference i have from the posts above is that i dont seem to have this folder anywhere (and hence cannot delete it and perhaps solve the problem):

"..Document and Settings\your_name\application data\lasersoft imaging\silverfast"

any ideas?? its driving me nuts.
