It's sad that this is the only place to get answers, but I'll try.
I have a Umax Astra 6400 (firewire) and recently purchased SilverFast SE. I'm running Mac OS X (Panther), with Photoshop CS. After installing the software, it does not recognize the scanner. The website gave me some sort of BS that I'm supposed to delete some sort of extension, reprogram the code of the operating system, or some other wacked up procedure. Is there anybody that has a clue.
I don't have three weeks to spend in a geek forum for solutions.

Most common cause for this problem:
If your SE version came on a CD, there are 2 different versions, supporting different Umax scanners on the CD. If you installed the "Astra-SE" version instead of the Umax-SE version it won't work with the 6400 scanner (please install the correct one).
Second most common cause
There used to be Umax- software for early versions of OS-X. This software installs a Umaxfirewire.kext into your system, which prevents SilverFast from communicating with the scanner. This file needs to be deleted using the terminal window, since it is protected from accidental deletion by the operating system. Please contact support directly if this applies to you.
