Hi,

Im new to this forum, however before Ive posted here Ive done a more than cursory search of the archives on this issue and Im rather stunned at the number of people that are having this same issue! That and what stunned me the most was the "Call Technical Support at 1.99 a minute!" line. That's just unacceptable and its bad business. Someone else said it better than Im about to but the bottom line is that you pay for a piece of software, it doesn't work, and then you have to call tech support and PAY THEM to solve the PROBLEM you already paid them for in the first place! That's just B A D business folks! BAD

To my problem:

Im on a G4 and a G5, Running 10.4. (and yes I know that the G5 is not supported)

Ive downloaded and installed SFE-6.4.1r7d for a UMAX 2100 XL (G5) and UMAX 3000 (G4).

Ive wiped out the previous installs of SilverFast AI6 and done the following IN SEQUENCE:

1.) put in CD, wait until its recognized on the desktop.
2.) Start SilverFast.
3.) It immediately asks for the serialization information. I enter it.
without error, first_name, last_name, company, and the CORRECT SERIAL NUMBER....
4.) push the UNLOCK SILVERFAST button.

I get a beep and thats it. It doesn't initialize the product.

I have to go into demo mode in order to get it to work.

That's not helpful.

This happens on BOTH machines.

Anyone want to offer support on this one...

Please contact me offlist....

Dear MagicMiles

please don't hesitate to contact LaserSoft Imaging support staff: http://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html

I would appreciate if you could paste a fresh copy of the SF_Logfile in the problem report.

On a Mac OS X PC you will find the SF_Logfile in /Users/(your username)/Library/Preferences/LaserSoft Imaging.

You could of course also you the search function of your system to find the "SF_Logfile". The SF_Logfile is always created anew when SilverFast is started up, even if no scanner can be found, it will be created.

Simply open it with your text editor (double clicking the SF_Logfile) and select all the text (CMD+A). Then copy the selection to the clipboard (CMD+C).
Go back to the problem report and click inside the text field. Move the text cursor to the end of your problem description and insert the SF_Logfile from the clipboard (CMD+V).

Thanks in advance for your co-operation.

Kind regards
