Opening Silverfast

Postby Smithy » Mon May 09, 2005 3:43 am

Have just installed Silverfast Ai 6 for Niokn LS9000 & when I go to launch program it jumps Immediately to the black screen & searches for device & hangs there without finding device or going any further. This happens if I launch as stand alone & also within Photoshop. Had previously downloaded a demo for Canon which also installed as plugin in Photoshop. Can anyone give some advice as to how to overcome this problem.

Dear Rob

the problem might be caused by an update which couldn't overwrite all older files. With preferences left over from an older version that are in incompatible format to the updated version, sometimes strange effects happen.

SilverFast usually should read the old prefs during an update install and transform them if the prefs format has been changed. But with certain file permissions set by the operating system this cannot always be done.

However, SilverFast does provide a set of secure settings.
If it does not find a "Prefs" folder when starting up, it generates a new one with these safe values.
Thus, please delete the Prefs folder (while SF isn't running) and check whether this does improve the situation.

On a typical Windows XP installation, the SilverFast "Prefs" folder is to be found at:
C: \ Documents and Settings \ (your username) \ Application Data \ LaserSoft Imaging \ SilverFast \

On a typical Mac OS X installation, the SilverFast "Prefs" folder is to be found at:
/ User / (your username) / Library / Preferences / LaserSoft Imaging / SilverFast /

Please shut off your scanner. Remove the film tray from the scanner. Turn it on again and wait until it has completely initialised.
Thereafter please put the film tray with the film back into the scanner.
Only when it is ready for scanning, startup SilverFast.

If the problem cannot be resolved by these hints, please don't hesitate to contact our support staff using the problem report form.

Starting Silverfast AI 6

Postby Smithy » Wed May 11, 2005 9:01 am

Sonny,
Still cannot get it to start. Have tried deleting profile from Photoshop & all references to previous installation. A still goes straight to the screen looking for device that it cannot find. Dissappointed that have paid for a program that does not want to work

Postby Smithy » Wed May 11, 2005 9:47 am

Have just uninstalled, Photoshop CS, Nikon Scan & Silverfast then re-installed them & still have the same problem. Why is the start Silverfast automatically box checked which launches me into starting the application & then it just hangs looking for a device. Program will go no further
