MICROTEK i900 DISASTER

Postby Wim » Fri Feb 04, 2005 10:46 pm

To whom it may concern:

Some years ago we bought a Microtek 8700 scanner with Scan Wizard software. Alas, the software never worked properly (and then only after several start ups and deleting prefs). Two weeks ago a college mentioned Silverfast. We loaded it down and see: the 8700 worked well, for the first time and within two minutes! So we decided to order the new Microtek i9oo, including... Silverfast and (as Microtek says) supporting our beloved Mac OS 9.2.
Yesterday the big box arrived. And to make a long story short: Silverfast did not work at all because it does not support OS 9.2, although Microtek (and Silverfast: see below) say it should do. And Scan Wizard Pro? Forget it to. Not on our OS 9.2, nor on 10, it fails all the time. At the end after many hours of trying we managed today to scan with OS 10 + Silverfast + i900, but alas again... we got all kinds of error messages (no memory!!!, scanner fails to initialize, scanner not found, cannot find scanner [after prescan], no space available on the disk [125 gb!!] etc. etc.).
Probably the scanner is the problem. Shame of the money (only 900 euros...!) but we dont have the time to experience any further. Who has a good suggestion, for either different software or a good working scanner?

Thanks in advance,

De Vries & Luiks Publicity (Holland)

Dear Mr de Vries

as stated before in email conversation, SilverFast does not claim to support this scanner under OS 9.

Neither the contents of an unchanged generally readme file, nor the design of the SilverFast package can be seen as opposing evidence. Though this might baffle you, it would be obvious if you'd know about how and where such bundles are actually produced.

I fully agree with you that it is a pity for SilverFast and Microtek ScanMaker i900 users alike that these products cannot be used in conjunction under OS 9.

For exact information, what scanners are supported by SilverFast under what operating system, please do always consult our website > Support > Supported scanners.
