What happened to the IT8 button??

I upgraded to 6.0.2r8 from 6.0.1r35, and now the button is gone!?
I have just bought a new IT8 target, and REALLY need that button NOW!!
I have an ArtixScan 4000tf, Mac OS X 10.2.4, I upgraded by custom install since I only use the standalone app and don't want the software to be installed in a Photoshop plugin folder. The "Register" button says the edition is already registered (after which it issues a confusing Warning: "this serial number is already registrated" - yes of course, by me of course...).
I really need that IT8 calibration before the end of the week!

There are two different numbers: one number only activates the plug-in and the other one activates the plug-in and the
IT8 calibration tool. When you updated, you probably entered the serial number for SF 6 that can only activate the plug-in but not the calibration tool.
If you can't find the correct serial number, please contact our support team:
https://www.silverfast.com/problemreport/en.html
They will send you a serial number to activate the plug-in and the calibration tool at once.

After hours of zillions of fruitless installation attempts, wiping all old installations, pref files etcetera, I finally managed to get it working by downloading a new file from LaserSoft. That file was dated two days later than the file I had downloaded earlier, despite it had the same version number, namely 6.0.2r08!? Obviously, you have done some modification!?
This time, I actually got the prompt to enter registration information, whereas all earlier attempts did NOT offer any way to enter any number, since it claimed the product to already be registered! So there is definitely something wrong with the installation/registration procedure. I only have one registration number, and that one is supposed to enable all features, including IT8.
So after many wasted hours, I got it working. I did a custom install of the standalone only, so as to make sure there is only one installation on the computer, hopefully reducing hassles in the future. If I really want to scan from within Photoshop (bad idea I think) I have an alias to the "real" standalone installation. I suspect that the origin of the problems stems from the fact that there were two versions originally, where I had deleted the unnecessary copy of the installation in the Photoshop plugin.
It seems many people have had installation/upgrade/registration problems, and these are bad for your Karma...
I think you should make things simpler by doing away with such artifacts as different numbers that attempts to differentiate between those who are allowed to access IT8 and those who are not. IT8 calibration is a standard requirement today for all advanced users, and for those who are not advanced users, they would never buy SilverFast anyway (they would be better off with something simpler, such as the standard software included with the scanner or some freeware). I even question the hassles of trying to sell the HDR version as an addition to the Ai version! Either you use SilverFast or you don't. From the user point of view, it is just a different work flow, using the same tools in a different order.

Dear Harald,
maybe you had not deinstalled SF the first time you tried to
update
It is true that sometimes customers have problems with the installation. But you will not see in this forum entries of customers who do not have any problem
Sf is always sold with the
IT8 tool when a customer buys the AS 4000tf, but not always with other scanners. So, when a customer buys a target, he also buys the calibration tool.
Thanks for your comments... they will help our Karma
