Trying installation SF6AI-update results in error message

Hi!

After being noticed, that there is a new SF 6 AI update with GANE for what I was curious to, I downloaded the update. Starting the TWAIN version EXE-file for my Heidelberg HiRes always ends in an error message (in german), that 'there is another SF-Version yet' and that I shall 'change or delete it' under 'Software'.

I'm sure, having downloaded the correct SF version for my scanner type. As I read in this forum, it should be easy, to install updates: only installing over the older version. How??? Does the reported problem come from the carrying out of the IT8 calibration? As the first installation was very difficult, its for sure, that I don't want to deinstall SF first. Im frustrated and angry about that complicated installation process.

Yours,

Dear Ralf, its your system that requires the deinstallation. Please go through Start > control panel > software and select the SilverFast installation entry there for deinstallation.

Hi LSI_Engelhardt!

Thanks for your answer. Unfortunately I hadn't time to upgrade until now. But today, when I looked under 'software' what has been installed I saw two entries:
SilverFast LinoSDK (Ai, Twain) with no size and
SilverFast Linotype (TWAIN Plugin) 1,62 MB

Which one do you mean must be deinstalled? And when the new version is installed, is it automatically registered? Or need I to enter the registration code again? And what about the IT8 registration, is that code kept? Have I to expect the worst case, that means, the IT8 calibration has to be made again?

While reading in this forum the most important tip before upgrading seems to be for me, taking an image of drive C:, to be able going back to a state where scanning is functioning. The longer I wait, the more I'm scared to upgrade. Why can't it be so easy as for example like FixFoto on www.j-k-s.com. There I registered once (!) and every update is installed within half a minute (!) - even it's no problem having some other programs run at the same time!

Hope you can show me a successful way to upgrade with a minimum loss of time, thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Ralf M. Eberle

Still waiting...

I have a Nikon LS 30 and I have just updated my SilverFast Ai 6.
I always uninstall the one without size. Then I install the update.
I don't have to enter any of the reg codes again.
