upgrade problem - deinstall previous version request

I have tried to install the latest versions of Silverfast 6 for HDR and the Nikon LS2000 and I am requested to deinstall all previous versions. This is unfortunate as I will lose all my personal settings. Is there an error with the upgrade files? Previously we used to be able to upgrade without losing our previous settings through a deinstall. Please advise.

Dear Eric,

When you deinstall SilverFast, only the files that were installed during the installation are removed. Any file written on your hard disk after the installation is not removed. Therefore, all your settings contained in the folder "Prefs" will remain untouched. To be sure, you can make a backup of your two "Prefs" folders (HDR + Ai Nikon) before the deinstallation and copy/paste them back after the installation of the upgrade.

Thanks for the reply. I have followed your instructions. HDR now works properly. However, I have lost the IT8 facility for the Ai version with the NIkon LS2000. Do I need to buy a new IT8 licence to upgrade from version 5.5 to 6 (seems a tad expensive)? Or is their a problem with my registration code?

Dear Eric,

when you upgraded from SF 5.5 to 6 on the website, you were supposed to enter your IT8 serial number from SF 5.5. You probably entered the "normal" serial number; therefore, you became a "normal" SF 6 number.

I'll contact you personally to give you an IT8 serial number.

upgrading (wihtin Windows XP) - which option?

I have just upgraded to Windows XP and note that when I double click files downloaded from you9r webpage with newer version of SilverFast 6, I am asked to chose one of three options, i) remove previous version then install, ii) upgrade previous version and iii) install new version. Am I right in believing that with all new updates, I should also choose ?remove previous version then install??

Dear Eric.

If you don?t need the old versions any more, then you can remove the old version and then install the new one.
Otherwise install a new copy.

Eric.
