All right, I know this will sound odd, but the recent 25th anniversary offer got me to dig out my old Quato X-Finity Pro 48. It's a SCSI scanner, and that's where the problem lies. There was no way I could use it on my iMac with Snow Leopard, so it went to the shelf. Shame, for it was an expensive scanner, and it would work much better now with SF 6.5 than with the early OS9 software (scans are now noticeably sharper with the demo software).
So here are my findings:
In OS9 on G4 with old Quato-Silverfast drivers : SCSI, ok. FireWire with Belkin adapter, ok.
In classic mode, the scanner works with the Belkin adapter from OS-9 drivers, but not in SCSI connection.
In OS-10.4.11 on G4 with SF 6.5: SCSI ok, but with the Belkin FireWire, there is a connection and the scanner operates, but there is no image data. But some users said at the time that the adapter was operational in 10.4. True?
In OS-10.6.8 on iMac Intel, SF 6.5 and Belkin adapter : Same. Scanner found and operates with sometimes the message about crop window not found, but no image data retrieved from the scanner. I tried trashing prefs and using other connection procedures ad nauseum : no luck.
Will the scanner have to go back to the shelf?
Thanks for any tips of advice.
Best regards
Paul

Re: Belkin FireWire to SCSI Adapter and Quato
Dear Paul,
It sounds like the connection is working correctly. Otherwise the scanner would not be found at all.
Sounds more like an issue with the scanner itself.
Have you checked if the lamps light up? (Be careful they are very bright.)
Are the transport safeties unlocked?
Also test both reflective and transparency.
For more help I would forward you to our support system.
Kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
