Corel Draw 11 not compatible with Silverfast SE V5.5

I installed Silverfast SE V5.5 (Bundled) with Epson Perfection 2450 Scanner successfully.

However, after I select the source as Silverfast in Corel Draw 11 (Photo Paint 11) and attempted to acquire new document with Silverfast, it displayed Silverfast for few second then Corel Photo Paint 11 immediately reported error during negotating scanner capabilites with twain driver.

Until possible solution, I have to use standard Epson twain driver for now to scan with Corel Photo Paint 11. Corel Photo Paint 11 can handle Epson Twain driver but could not handle Silverfast SE V5.5.

Dear dgouthro,
SilverFast TWAIN software does not support Corel PhotoPaint beyond version 8 of this program.
Instead the new SilverFast ver. 6 software offers (besides the preferable Photoshop plug-in) a so called "stand-alone" application. In fact, it is also a plug-in that runs with a little application called "SF_App" which is NOT an image processing software but only an application that can open a SilverFast plug-in.
This is the alternative we offer, and it is more relyable than TWAIN, as with TWAIN plug-ins it depends on the host application used (PhotoPaint 11) and how good this application can comunicate through TWAIN with the plug-in. Sometimes this communication just fails, as is the case with PhotoPaint 11.

Silverfast AI 6 can handle 48bit color depth?

I know Silverfast AI 6 do support 48 bit scanning but there is Silverfast HDR that can save 48 bit file but price is much more expensive (far above my reach) so I have to stick with Silverfast AI instead.

Will Silverfast AI 6 acquire 48bit color scan and convert to 24 bit during saving to the disk (automatic conversion)?

File format must be 24 bit TIFF OR 24 bit JPEG standard. Corel Photo Paint 11 can read both TIFF and JPEG V1.0 easily without any problems. If Silverfast AI can save 48 bit color format, I will check Corel Photo Paint 11 if it can support 48 bit TIFF files.

Note: I don't purchase Silverfast AI 6 yet. I also like IT8 calibration to improve scanning calibration, too.

I want to know if Silverfast PhotoCD also use standard scanning from my scanner in addition to Photo CD discs.

1. All SilverFast modules can scan in 24 bit.
2.a Ai versions do support 48 bit, if the scanner supports raw data.
2.b HDR supports 48 bit, if the file your are reading contains 48 bit.
2.c All SE versions (light version) do not support 48 bit.
3. The PhotoCD module is designed for use with PhotoCDs only. It can?t scan data from a scanner.

I hope that clarifies

Silverfast worked but problem with preview (purple colors)

I found out Corel Photopaint 11 CAN handle Silverfast AI 6 but must be photoshop plugin only. Twain driver don't work with Corel Photo Paint 11 but Photoshop plugin worked flawlessly. I don't need SF Application you have suggested. I cannot use Silverfast HDR since Corel Photo Paint 11 does not support 48 bit TIFF or JPEG, only support 48 bit on special format which is exclusive only to Corel, not General use. Also Corel Photo Paint 11 cannot support 48 bit color import so I have to use only 24 bit depth on Silverfast AI to work correctly. Anyway, I am personal user, not professional user so therefore I don't have to worry about high prices for HDR.

Though, the installer says "Cannot find Photoshop plugin folder", I know where I can put into Corel Photo Paint 11's plugin folder and Corel Photo Paint 11 know how to access.

I am finally successfully accessed Silverfast AI 6 Demo. Prescan worked flawless with Epson scanner, it displayed just like purple covered. Final Scan showed no problems, though. NOTE: Prescan returned CORRECT scan data but preview window showed incorrect colors (purple covered).

:-?

How can I fix preview results problem? Prescan worked perfectly and maintain correct scan data but showed purple inside preview window only. It does not affect final scanning, though.

Please open the option dialog in SilverFast and select the "CMS panel". In the "color managment group" box switch "Injternal -> Monitor" from automatic to none.
Its just a trial but possibly this can help.

Silverfast AI 6 worked flawlessly!!

I found out Silverfast AI 6 attempted to use Corel profile for preview purposes. Corel profile is not ICM compatible and reserved for Corel Applications ONLY. I changed Silverfast AI 6 (Internet -> Monitor) to ICM, not auto and set Internet profile to EPSON sRGB (Generic) and it worked!

Since the default "Auto" color correction give my picture too saturated and too vivid on highlight colors so I have tweaked "Auto" option to correct automatic problems. I turned off Automidpip (except upper) and enable "Levels" on Shadow. I also set shadow offset to 100 and set highlight offset to 0. Leave auto contrast on. Then it displayed EXACT colors to my original paper which is scanned. Also, I need ICM for Scanner -> Internal to correct uncalibration problem and set scanner profile to Epson Perfection 2450 ICM so tint/hue are correct from my scanner. I am very happy with my customized setting. I don't think I need IT8 Calibration feature but it should improve calibration further.
