Unable to install under Windows98

I am trying to install SilverFast Film35 (SE Twain) under Windows 95 SE. It installs to the point where it requires the reboot.

Upon rebooting it comes up with various error messages including something about having too old a version of Windows Installer. The messages flashed up so quickly that I didn't get all the exact details.

It seems to have half installed SilverFast, but I'm not sure which half. Using Control panel, I'm unable to uninstall it (to try over again) because it says "This installation package cannot be installed by Windows Installer service ... you need a newer version of Windows Installer...
C:\Windows\installer\62ad5b.msi"

What does all this mean and what do I need to do to uninstall / get clean install?

Dear snipcock,
what is the Windows installer service?

Did you not simply double click the "SETUP.EXE" file from the SilverFast CD - or if it was a download, didn't you simply double-click that file?

If I knew the answer I'd be unlikely to have to post my problem. Evidently it's used during SilverFast installation, so maybe they can tell us?

I did just that! My problem resulted after starting a normal SilverFast installation. Now I'm stuck with a corrupted system.

I have now solved the problem by downloading the latest Windows Installer from:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/rele ... seID=32831

It seems that pretty much every other software developer includes this necessary piece of software as part of their SETUP program. I am surprised that SilverFast don't seem to do this, leaving new users possibly with the same problem that I encountered.
