Two Scanners - Double the Software?

I currently own a Plustek 7500i and a Canon CanoScan 8800f which I want to use for scanning different film sizes: Plustek for 35 & CanoScan for 120.

I already have Silverfast 8 installed for the Plustek but have had issues installing Silverfast 8 (which I have just upgraded to) for the CanoScan, which when I attempt to install, wants to overwrite the Plustek software.

Do I need and is it possible to install two versions(?)of the same software to run each scanner? (The already installed copy of Silverfast 8 does not 'see' the CanoScan when plugged in, even after I had updated the CanoScan drivers)

You can install several SilverFast versions on the same computer.
But make sure all versions use the latest update available.

Many thanks for the clarification, Arne.

During the installation of the SilverFast 8 (Canon) version, do I need to choose a different program installation directory as the installer wants to place it in the same directory as the SilverFast 8 (Plustek) version?

(BTW, both versions of Silverfast are the same - latest version - SF-8.0.1r17_x64)

Thank you

Christian

Please do not install SilverFast in separate folders.

All SilverFast plug-ins must be installed in the standard directory.

So, What was the conclusion?

I also will have 2 scanners in about a week.... My 35mm Plustek 7300 (currently using with SF-8 1.22r x64),
And adding a Epson V700 Flatbed.
What would be the possibility of running SF6.6 (that will come with the V700), then upgrading to SF8 X64.? That will most likely install in the existing SF8 directory..
I just don't want to have one scanner replaced by the other....
I NEED THEM BOTH without switching hassles!!

Dear Christian,

You can install SilverFast 8 and SilverFast 6 on the same system.
The two software versions have no common resources.

Arne Ketelhohn

Am trying to install SilverFast 8 on mac OS 10.8.5. I have one SilverFast 8 for Nikon Scanner ED4000
& a second version for the Epson 750. Each will install fine separately. However, I haven't had any luck
getting them both to install at once. If the Nikon Silverfast 8 is all up & working & I install the 750 Silverfast
it writes over the Nikon Software & vica-versa with the Epson. I have tried to trick the installer & it
will show each when clicked on from dock or folder. Both show no devices present. They open nothing.

OS 8.5 Macbook Pro.

Dear Michael,

Please make sure you are installing the latest versions for both scanners.
Download the latest updates from our website and install those.
Our "updates" are always full installation files and can be installed directly.

SilverFast 8 will not work correctly if different release numbers are installed.

kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn.
