I have now posted my 4th E-mail to Silverfast support but never have I received a reply. So I'll try my luck here!

The last decent scan I got out of Silverfast was from the version 5.5.0r07. Any version later than this produces a bad quality scan image distortion and roughness are the main factors of my complaint. I have even tried the latest version 5.5.1r08 with no joy.
The software must be at fault as the Umax MagicScan v4.5 software works fine, in fact I've been back to using that since the trouble began.
My Firmware was 2.0 to start with now I have upgraded to 2.2 and back again just in case that was the problem.
I would gladly send comparison images like I did each time in my E-mails.

I`m also having very much problems with the Powerlook 3000 and any update since 5.5.0r06,although I can`t tell,wether I also would have your "distortion-problem" ,because other problems are so big,that I didn?t have a chance to look at that one yet.BTW,if you understand German,take a look at "new-features-wishlist...I want a working model"
I?m using firmware 2.2 and WinME and XP.

Forgot to ask you,how long a scan(24/36mm slide or negative) at 3048 dpi takes(without taking calibration and focussing into account).Any differences between 5.5.0r07 and 5.5.1r08?

Sorry have not tested speed. No. 1 for me is that the software functions correctly.
Speed was never the strong point of the Umax PL 3000 anyway.
All I want is a fix to the bug I mentioned.

The reason,I was asking for speed is,that since 5.5.1r03 a 3048dpi scan (24/36mm)takes only 25 sec.(without calibration and focussing) in comparison to 2min in the versions before.Maybe that is one reason for the problems in quality.BTW are you using Mac or PC?

OK sorry I see your point now about speed. I run a Mac with SilverFast.
Where is the Tech support team dammit!

I`m having a discussion going on with Nils from lasersoft over at "new features wishlist-I want a working model".I also mentioned your problem.I don`t know,wether you speak german and can join us over there.

I have finally got repllies from SilverFast and according to a technician they have been able to simulate the problem.
So now I'm just waiting for the next reply or fix even.
