Powerlook II no longer working

Good Morning,

I have a Umax Powerlook II with an Orange firewire converter which I am attempting to use with os x 10.4.7. Orange, the company, is now defunct, but the converter has been confirmed to function in os x 10.4.

Initially, the scanner wasn't recognized, and so I went and installed Twain Sane interface from http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/.
Like magic, the powerlook was recognized and Silverfast (the demo) worked wonderfully. At one point, I had to disconnect and reconnect the firewire for it to work, and it never really functioned unless I turned on the scanner before booting the mac.... but I was happy to experiment with the SE Plus demo nonetheless.
Alas, now, after sitting a couple days, nothing I do can get the mac to recognize the scanner.

I've tried reinstalling the twain sane drivers, reinstalling silverfast, and every power up/cable switching combination I can think of.....to no avail.
I really enjoyed the Silverfast interface and am desperate to get this to work- I was all set buy the SE plus this evening until I tried to test the scanner out one more time.

Presently I'm getting the 'choose plugin folder' prompt, followed by the 'scanner not found' prompt.

Is there anything I can do to get this scanner functioning regularily? I was very impressed with silverfast in the short time I had to use it, and need this scanner to work quite soon.

Any suggestions?

Thank you again,
John

Hmmmm, Strangely enough, switching the scsi cable to another I had laying around seems to have fixed the problem- it seems to be working so far.... fingers crossed.

These things are incredibly touchy, aren't they?
