Deleting corrupted pref file & reinstalling (Mac)

There is no "ALT" key on Mac keyboard; it's the "Option" key. Anyway, after days of frustration it's working again. Phew!

oh well, doesn't your keyboard have the imprint "alt" just above the symbol for "option"?
