can't make scanner work with G5 via firewire to SCSI

I am trying to get a UMAX powerlook III to work with my new G5. My SCSI card from the G4 didn't fit, so I bought a Belkin SCSI to firewire adapter. I installed Silverfast SE on my machine and it keeps telling me no scanner is attached. Is there an extra step for Firewire or something?

Dear zakmac

as far as we tested SCSI scanners with G5 Macintoshs we had the least trouble with the Belkin adapter, so I suppose it should be possible to get it working.
If you are using Panther, please update to 10.3.2 (not necessarily 10.3.3), if you haven't done it already.

Are you using the latest version of SilverFast for your scanner (can be verified by the SF_Logfile)?
Is you adapter shown in the Apple System Profiler? Is your scanner shown?
