When I use SilverFast 5 together with my Umax Powerlook 3000 how do I know that I am using the higher power lens when I scan transparencies. On the Umax 3000 there is a strip in the middle on the glassplate that scans 3048 dpi but in the SilverFast software there is nothing that tells me when I am using this area. What is the difference between "Transparency","DOR Transparency" and "DOR 2 Transparency" in the General dialog box? Can?t find it anywhere in the manual.

Umax and DOR (Double Optical Resolution)

DOR Transparency and DOR2 Transparency are the selections for using the higher resolution optics (Double Optical Resolution) of the Powerlook 3000 scanner, while it is the highest resolution possible using the 3048 dpi strip in the middle of the scan bed.

DOR is the upper portion of the scan bed.
DOR2 is the lower portion of the scan bed.

Hi,do I get a higher resolution when using DOR2 instead of DOR1?.By the way,what is SF 5.5(Demo)?

I have just ordered Silverfast AI with IT8 calibration for my Umax PL 3000. While trying out the demo I have realised that "DOR Transparency" scans only the top half of the bed with the dual lens and that "DOR 2 Transparency" scans the bottom half of the bed. How does one scan the whole of the dual lens area? Secondly what does "DOR" stand for? Thirdly is there no ruler function?

As far as I know there is no possibility to scan the whole high resolution area in one single scan.You can only choose one of the two halfs.DOR1 and DOR2 both scan using the high resolution lens and provide the same quality.I can only guess what DOR means,maybe Double Optical Resolution?Maybe you can do me a favour and scan a normal slide with normal highlights and shadows, take a look at the histograms and tell me from which value to which value the tones go,because with my Powerlook 3000(WinMe)I just get values from 0 to about 150 and nothing between 150 and 255.

Scanning with Umax Magic Scan 4.5 for Mac the levels were straight through 0-255. I am not using Silvetfast yet 'cause of the "DEMO" watermark. But don't put Magic Scan down it's a very good software, I only bought Silverfast for it's IT8 function.
