HDR 6.4.4r2 (Windows XP) crashes on launch

I currently have problems launching the SF HDR application. The launcher crashes. HDR was previously working. I don't know why it crashes now. Besides reinstalling NikonScan I can't think of anything I've done since it last worked.

Unfortunately a de- and reinstallation of HDR did not help.

The following information is part of the problem report:

Code: Select all

AppName: sf launcher.exe
ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180
Offset: 0001eb33

Have other people had this problem?

well although 6.4.4r2 seems to me much less stable than the previous version (sorry guys) a fault concerning kernel32.dll can be caused by something more serious than software bugs in applications.

For a start now I'd recommend to, on a German system, rename %USERPROFILE%\Anwendungsdaten\Lasersoft Imaging\SilverFast\Prefs before starting up SF HDR. By renaming that directory you are not going to lose all your current settings and you still can see whether some corrupt file may be the cause of your problems.

You also should make sure there is no other instance of the SF launcher active, say make sure you do not start SF HDR while running SF AI for instance.

Should HDR still crash afterwards I'd recommend to scan your system for malware, though.

just as a preventative, run chkdsk and make sure you don't have any disk problems contributing. Go to My Computer, C disk, properties, tools, chkdisk and check "fix errors". you will then have to reboot and let it work. Sometimes you may have to defrag as well afterwards so that is worth checking but not usually needed. Warning : it can take overnight on a big disk!

The other thing to verify is that you are using the most recent motherboard chipset drivers and video drivers.

If that is not an issue, then it is likely a corrupted install or registry issue. Run one of the utilities like Norton to check the registry and see if there are any issues.
