HDR IT-8 Calibration?

I have read with interest the latest tutorial update by Ian Lyons on IT-8 calibration in which he seems to advocate seperate profiles for a scanner and HDR. For example, when calibrating a scanner setting the Frame window SCAN TYPE/MODE to 36->24 Bit Colour or 48 Bit HDR Colour when scanning an IT-8 target for use with Silverfast HDR?

Up to now I have been embedding my 36->24 Bit scanner profiles into my 48 Bit HDR Colour scans for use with HDR. I scan mostly transparency material and have noticed my scans appear considerably colder than the original transparency. Could this possibly be due to an inadequate profile for reasons mentioned previously?

I would be interested to hear if any other forum members are using seperate profiling for SF Ai and HDR and should I purchase HDR IT-8 profiling?

:-?

I use HDR with IT-8 to scan from Minolta Scan Multi I. I first produce a 48 bit raw scan in v**s**n, then bring it into HDR using the calibration. I output it as a 24 bit tif and continue in Photoshop.

It works quite well.

The calibration was doen the same way - with 48 bit raw scans, opened in HDR, then run through the calibration set up.

Be sure to use the appropriate calibration slide - Fujichrome, Kodachrome, Ektachrome, etc.

appropriate calibration slide?

By the use of the "appropriate calibration slide," do you mean that the calibration slide and the scanned slide should both come from the same film manufacturer?

Thanks,

Exactly.

Make sure you use the Ektachrome with Ektachrome, Fuj w/ Fuji, etc.

Where can I find Fuji IT8 calibration slides? I bought a Kodak IT8 slide with Monaco EZ Color. Will this work for calibrating HDR?

Lasersoft sells Fuji calibration slide. Either fuji or Kodak slides will work with HDR.

Does HDR have calibration built in? Or is it something that is sold as an addon? If I calibrate my scanner with EZColor, will that work?

Ezcolor calibration will not work with hdr. Atleast not easily.

For true calibration in HDR you need to purhcase the IT-8 option.

Hmm,

Since when with EZcolor calibration not work with HDR? All you need is to create the scan via the normal scan software and then create the profile in EZcolor. In HDR you choose the the profile and bingo! See

I have tried that and found that it does not work as well as the IT-8 calibration built into HDR. Perhaps I am doing something wrong, but the built in IT-8 gives me better results.

One more thing:

in order to embed a calibration profile, you must have the IT-8 option in HDR.

If you have the IT-8 option in HDR, what is the point of using a Monaco generated profile?

IT8 calibration for HDR

I would be grateful if somone could help me with IT8 calibration for HDR. I am not clear how to do it (ie. do I scan an IT-8 slide with Silverfast Ai to produce a "digital" IT-8 slide and then scan the digital IT-8 slide in HDR?).
