Scanning transparency (pos or neg)

Microtek Artixscan F1:
Most often, when I scan tranparencies, I get better scanningresults (sharper, more colourful) using the glass plate instead of the transparency holders.
How is this possible? The scanner is calibrated using a transparency holder.

Of course... using the glass plate quite often causes Newton rings. Is there a way to avoid/get rid of them?

Hi there,

Film stripes are inherently curved, if you use a film holder without glass, this curve makes the focusing point difficult because scanners have a very shallow depth of field. Using A glass holder reduces the focusing problem.

Right! The best way to reduce Newton rings is by wet mounting the film.
