silverfast for X6 USB on XP - cannot connect to the device

Hi, before buying the SE or AI version I wanted to try it on my old personal scanner (Microtek X6 USB). I knew Silverfast from work and I think it is really the tool for any scanner. So I decided to give a try to my X6.
I am running windows XP PRo (SR1) and had installed the latest driver from Microtek Site (It's V. 260). The scanner work perfectky with Scan Wizzard.
So I've downloaded the Silverfast 6 SE (v6.0.1d27) and the Silverfast 6 AI (v6.0.1D38) in twain to give a try. I Used it from photoshop 7, but it cannot initialized the scanner (cannot connect to the device).
Under XP, the "event manager" is not working, so the tip mentionned on the FAQ page is of no use.
If any one got any clue about it, I would be thankful.
