From time to time, the scanned output file comes with unpredictable color. (usually, it is the blue color being over-strengthened)


(1) the color is very much different from what is shown in the the Preview screen.


(2) sometimes, re-scanning the film may bring me normal color (which matches with the Preview screen).


From the description, what is the clue on what setting could be wrong?

Which scanner are you using?

Was it warmed up?

Some devices need to scan for a few minutes to reach their final color values.

I use Plustek 8200i (ai) to scan negative film. I bet this LED scanner does not require warming up?

More observation to help brainstorm about the root cause:
1. When the unpredictable color cast happens ("unpredictable" in the sense that it is seen in the output file but not in the preview screen), Silverfast is using the Default (frame) Setting. Somehow, the scanning resolution is at 2400dpi.
2. Then... If I change the scanning resolution to 3600dpi, the color cast goes away.

No LED scanners do not require warming up.

If this happens at a certain resolution I would suggest avoiding that value.
In SilverFast Ai Studio you can save frame settings in the frame menu.
Create a setting which works well for you and save it.
Then you can select that setting as default in the preferences' general tab.
That way whenever you reset or delete a frame you always get a setting which will work.

I tried it but consistently encounter a side-problem with Default frame setting.

I created a frame setting called "2002CA" and set it as the "Default setting", as shown below.


UNEXPECTED behavior - When Silverfast loads the default setting (after I switch from WorkflowPilot to manual mode), the resolution becomes 2400dpi despite of the fact that 3600dpi is specified in "2002CA"


The problem would not occur if the frame setting "2002CA" is loaded manually. The resolution always becomes 3600dpi.

I am wondering if you can re-produce the problem at your side and it could be fixed in the future version of SF (zipped).

To help your investigation, I also attach the frame setting xml file.

I have forwarded this issue to our support center where we will test it.
