Optical, Nominal, Interpolated Resolution

I'm going to scan a bunch of slides and I wanted to attain the proper setup on my Epson V600 before I start. I'm using AI Studio software (ver on a Mac Pro.
I want my scans as big as they can be while still retaining the highest quality.They will be for archiving purposes but mostly just for viewing on a computer/ipad screen.
I saw in a Silverfast Quicktime movie that the colors in the resolution slider refer to optical, nominal and interpolated resolution. I understand optical and interpolated resolution but the size I want to scan at falls in the "nominal" resolution area. On my scanner the nominal resolution settings are:
3200 dpi
4213 x 2841 pixels
What exactly is "nominal" resolution? Is there any reason I should not use this setting with my scanner?

It is the resolution given by the scanner manufacturer.
Some components of the scanner might in fact have this resolution. However, the optical resolving power is generally less than the one given by the scanner manufacturer.

Of course you can and should use this resolution (otherwise it would not be there) if that is the one you need. It will give you the size in pixels for each side of your resulting image.

If I wish to scan 35mm slides in SF8 Ai Studio to HDR scans at the maximum quality possible of my scanner (Nikon LS5000), should I be moving the slider below the Resolution Bar so it sits underneath the yellow/nominal section rather than the green?

Dear customer,

The "yellow value" is the last physical resolution.
Higher values have to be interpolated.
