isrd on 6x6 negatives

I am trying to archive 6x6 Black & White negatives which date from the 1950's. I have the SE archive suite which includes the latest SE Plus. I have tried scanning in 48 to 24 bit and in 16 to 8 bit Tiff modes but in neither can I get the isrd function to pick up the dust and scratches on the negatives. I have Multiple Exposure turned off. My scanner is an Espon V500 which should run isrd, and the pre-scan indicates that an IR scan is being done after the normal scan. Does anyone have any tips to offer on this or any other aspects of Black & White negative archive scanning (a walk-through guide to B&W negative scanning would be useful).

Hi Mike,

infrared correction most likely will not work with Black and white films from the 50´s. The Silver halide particles within the film disperse the infrared light preventing the scratch and dust detection from working.

Cheers

Thanks Alejandro, very useful to know this - I thought it was me! :-) I seem to be getting good results by guessing what the film type might be and trying a few options. I am new to Silverfast and am finding my way round the Siverfast 8 SE Archive Suite. Do you know when the completed version of the Silverfast HDR will be released? Again, many thanks for your help.

We are working on that. It is a huge work in progress, features and bug fixing will be added gradually with every update.

Kind regards
