Scanning B&W photos

I have to scan over 100 old B&W snapshots, and I could really use some advice. It's a lot of work, and want to do it right. In the end, I'm going to take them into Photoshop Elements and create a scrapbook. What settings should I use to scan? Should I scan in 8 bit? Should I use Auto CCR? (I have a lot to learn about scanning and haven't found a good resource.)

Hi there,
If you are going to print your pictures in small format you will probably not need anything more than 2400 dpi, perhaps even 1200 dpi could be enough.
8 Bit is also alright, you can use the 8 bit greyscale scan mode and the Automatic button to start with, if the automatic adjustments are not according to what you have in mind you are probably going to have to adjust every picture individually
Cheers
