What will SilverFast Resolution Target (USAF 1951) give me in terms of extra functionality ?? I am a basic user using Plustek scanner and Silverfast to scan family slides ? The only problem i have encountered is with white lines which i have resolved using fantastic responses on this Forum. Does this give an greatly improved scanned image ? Or is this something more suitable for professional users ? I could be tempted to purchase as I like the idea of improved images. How does it actually work ? Is this just some extra functionality software that embeds itself into Silverfast and there are no new buttons to press or options to select ?

Hi michael
The resolution target, helps you identify the best resolution your device is capable of. It does not really has any extra functionality nor improvement to the software. However knowing the real resolution of your device helps you get the best possible image without using any interpolation (or avoiding resolutions which might not be optimal for the image details).
Cheers

I purchased the subject target and am having difficulty understanding the instructions. I am using it with an Epson 1680 and when I perform the scan, I set the dpi to 1600 which is suppose to be the optical resolution. Is this the correct setting or should it be 6400dpi? A movie explaining the process would be very helpful but I can not find one. I have performed the scan and would appreciate if someone would review it and tell me what the resolution is. Sorry but the instructions are quite confusing to me. A response would be appreciated.

Dear customer,
In the image you sent the last lineblock which has clearly distinguishable lines would be the block 2 number 6.
You would take that value and look it up in your description's table.
There you will get there you will get corresponding resolution.
kind regards

Thank you for the response. So, in this case, group 2, element 6 would equate to 362. This would be the optimum resolution on my scanner which I would set when I scan, correct? A movie sure would be helpful.

In this case that would be correct, but I think the image was compressed for webdisplay so the actual dpi probably is higher if the image is viewed in its correct size.
I will forward your request for a movie to our graphics department.
kind regards,

Again, thank you for your prompt response. You are correct, the image was compressed. May I send you the tiff uncompressed file so you can give me the correct interpretation? If so, please provide me with an email address where I can send you the larger file. A response would be appreciated.
