HDR scans for artwork?

I am seeking feedback from other professionals to see if it is necessary or recommended to scan book artwork images in HDR 48 bit format? What would be the benefits for artwork scans from books? We were currently scanning images in standard mode (48>24 bit) & saving the images as a .tga (targa) file since .tga file is friendly with Adobe After Effects & Adobe Premiere. However, with HDR scans it is much easier to do USM & descreening processing to an image than it was when we would use the standard scan mode in Silverfast.
Here is a comparison of the 2 modes of scans HDR vs. traditional scan mode (48>24 bit) both images auto leveled.
