Calibration button still grey after IT8 Calibration

Hi there,
I recently purchased SilverFast Ai6.6 IT8 with target set. I'm running a PC on Windows XP.
I keep trying to calibrate the scanning using the target set as mentioned in the manual and on your online video. However, after the message about 'The Calibration succeeded with an average Delta E of 1.2', the calibration button remains grey and not colour like your demo video and manual.
Please help!
Thanks for your time,
Luke.

Dear Luke,
As long as a small little red c is shown in the image automatic's icon (photo-iris symbol) the calibration was successful and a profile is in use.
kind regards

Thanks for the response.
However, I've just done another calibration but the Image Auto-adjust icon doesn't have the little red c as you mentioned (after looking at your online calibration video I see it on there - it's in the second icon after the zoom icon, right?)
I even reinstalled the software, but the red c still does not appear after the calibration process is complete.
Any thoughts? I need to start scanning soon, as I've taken next week off work to spend time scanning old family photos.
Any ideas you may have will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Luke.

Dear Luke,
Please make sure the colormanagement is fully activated.
In the option's CMS tab the first three settings should read:
-ICM(win)/ColorSync(Mac)
-ICM(win)/ColorSync(Mac)
-RGB
Also make sure you are using the correct target for the mode you are in.
Reflective, transparency and
Kodachrome all require individual calibration targets.
kind regards,
Arne Ketelhohn

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.
I've just tried calibrating, ensuring the color management is fully activated. In the option's CMS tab the first three settings read as you stated:
Image Colour Matching (ICM)
Image Colour Matching (ICM)
<RGB>
I made sure I was using the correct target: I've only got targets for reflective and transparency, and was using the reflective one to calibrate for my photos.
However, I still cannot get the small C on the Image Auto-adjust button or the coloured in IT8 button.
I'm using an Epson Perfection V700 scanner if that helps. I've also deleted all but the 2 correct reference files in the 'IT8 Reference Files' folder so that they are the relevant ones for my reflective and transparency targets.
Thanks,
Luke.

Hi there,
I seem to have solved the problem. I reinstalled my operating system and it seems to calibrate now. The calibration button now appears coloured and the auto adjust button has a small C in it.
However, I just have one small question: when I start Silverfast, the calibration button is coloured to begin with and also the auto adjust button has the C in it as well. Is this correct?
Do I go to the settings and change ICM to none to enable me to calibrate the scanner correctly or can I calibrate the scanner using the supplied IT8 target without changing any of the settings?
When I've altered the settings to none (instead of ICM) the button goes grey and the auto adjust button loses the C in it. Then I've calibrated the scanner and the button becomes colour again and the auto adjust button has the C in again.
Thanks for your time,
Luke.

Dear Luke,
It is possible you had too many color profiles in your system.
Windows can only manage a certain amount of them.
If your problem occurs again you can also try deleting unnecessary .icc and .icm profiles form the folder:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\color
The c shows, that a profile is in use and the color management is active, so this should be ok.
kind regards

hi everyone,
i have exactly the same problem with the calibration of my reflecta crystalscan 7200 (I use silverfast Ai with photoshop).
when i do an auto-calibration, the process ends perfectly and i have a dialog box opening saying so.
but i can't see any C in the image automatic's icon.
i check the options as mentionned,
i move to another folder all of my icc profiles except sRGB and the scanner's one
Thanks for your help.

Dear Kilmenor,
Under Options/CMS you should check the first part "color management" you should have something into the three fields there (depending on whether you are using mac or windows).
The next picture shows what it looks like on the Mac

- Color management section on the mac
- Screen shot 2011-01-27 at 9.11.18 AM.png (17.71 KiB) Viewed 3500 times
If you work on windows you should have the option "image color matching ICM" on the two first fields.
Cheers
