Digital ICE and Kodachrome

I scanned many Kodachrome slides with my old Minolta Scan Elite 5400, and Digital ICE worked perfectly on that -- excellent dust & scratch removal, and no artifacts.

On my new Epson V700, Digital ICE produces significant edge artifacts on the *same* Kodachrome slides the Scan Elite 5400 worked perfectly with. Unfortunately the Scan Elite 5400 isn't supported on Windows 7.

On the V700, I'm trying both Epson Scan 3.83 and Silverfast SE 6.6.1r2b. I can't get good Digital ICE results with either.

Is there any scan software that can successfully use Digital ICE on Kodachrome with a currently-manufactured scanner (film or flatbed) and Windows 7?

Config details:

Epson Perfection V700 Photo
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
PC: Digital Storm, i7-860 @ 3.8Ghz, 8GB RAM, 3x 1.5TB SATA hard disks

Dear joema,

ICE or any other kind of infrared dust and scratches removal are problematic with Kodachromes as well as certain Black and White films. It has something to do with the processing of those films and the content of silver halide which prevents infrared light to properly go through the emulsion creating artifacts.

You might want to try using our iSRD solution which can be used with masks and layers where you will apply infrared correction to uniform parts of your pictures. For the Epson V700 iSRD is only available saving your files as 64 bit HDRi and then opening the resulting files in SilverFast HDR for postprocessing.

You can download the demo version of SilverFast HDR studio from: http://www.silverfast.com/get_demo/en.html?productline=hdr&vendor=LaserSoft%20Imaging&product=234 and test the iSRD with a few 64 bit HDRi files.

Cheers
