Hi,

I tried to scan a picture in a newspaper, worked alright but unfortunately the backside of the paper is shining through. How would I get rid of this? I have SF 6.x AI and aCanon 8600F. I did put a white piece of paper behind the page… used more or less standard settings as suggested by pilot (except getting rid of moire via semi-automatic).

Newspaper is very thin and when scanning, light is likely to go through it and reflect on the next surface (white lid or white paper). There is nothing you can do to prevent light from going through the newspaper, but perhaps you can prevent light from reflecting by using a black non-reflecting background (e.g. black cardboard or a thin piece of fabric) behind the picture you are scanning.
However you have to make sure the black background is only the size of the picture and not bigger, some scanners calibrate their light source against the white lid, hence you should should try to avoid covering the entire surface of the lid.

thanks for the response, actually I was hoping for some advice how to adjust the curves etc. to make sure the shinig through is less prominent. I remember having read sth. about this phenomenon some time ago (like years) but neither the hint nor its location come to my mind. Well I will try you tip nevertheless.
