Hello all,
Newbie here - please put up with me!
In scanning in photos glued to an ancient album, I need to be able to 'straiten' them. In a previous scan, these helpful little 'half-circles' appeared on the frame so that I could 'grab' them and rotate the frame to fit the picture. I don't know what I did to activate them because now nothing I do makes them reappear. Any ideas? I'm running Silverfast SE 6.6.1r3 with an Epson V700 on an iMac -10.6.1. Any help would advance this project quickly and appease several old relatives.

The previous scan you mentioned was perhaps made using SilverFast in Demo mode?

I am asking you because normally the little "half-circles" you mentioned belong to a bigger version of SilverFast.

Some times those semicircles also disappear when scanning in 64 bit HDRi mode.

No, it's not in demo mode. I'm scanning in '48->24 Bit Color' mode. And this is Silverfast SE. Why would those half-circles appear but then disappear? I'm noticing other things I can do at times but cannot at other times. Such as manually typing in the resolution I want or what I want to name to file. I can do it sometimes but not other times. Also, when I hit 'Scan' and it asks me where to put the file, when I hit 'ok' it tells me there are files that already have the same name. I have check, re-checked and, no, there is no file in that particular folder that has the same name. I add digits to the file name - nothing works. I finally just choose another folder to save them to then moved them. I have unregistered and registered at least two times. I love this software - I just either need to fix my ignorance or try to work it's bugs out. Or is this a matter that will only be resolved with an upgrade?

Dear Theresa,

The free rotation semicircles are not available in SilverFast SE, that is a feature that belongs to bigger versions of SilverFast.

I believe that happens when you go to another program while SilverFast is scanning, when you return to SilverFast you should do it by clicking the SilverFast icon on your dock, after that you will see that your keyboard is again active and you can input any values into the program. (This issue was already reported to our programming staff, most likely in a future version of SilverFast this problem will be solved).

Bear in mind that if you put a name in the "frame" panel and you do not change that name, all subsequent files will try to be written with exactly the same name (this is specially true if you are doing batch scans). Therefore it is very important that you only use one field for naming your files, either the one on the "frame" panel or the one field in the save dialogue that appears after pressing "scan" but not both.
