Hello,
I don't own Silverfast until now. I have a question before buying it.
I have a Nikon LS5000 and I have problems with the depth of field.
Is there a possibility to set different focus points in the software or another trick, to get a better depth of field than with the nikonscan software?

SilverFast in combination with the Nikon 5000 provides a much detailed control of the focus, you can set your own focusing point and the distance where you would like it to focus, however when it comes to depth of field, it is completely dependent on the hardware and the lens within the scanner.
Since it is a subjective question, I believe you are the only one who can judge the outcome and whether it works or not for you.

I recommend you to download and test the demo version of SilverFast before making any purchases, bear in mind that there are four different flavours of SilverFast and probably the smaller versions (SE and SE Plus) do not have the entire range of tools as the bigger versions (Ai or Ai Studio ME).

Any issues you have with the DOF and the CS5000 will not change. It is a function of the hardware Nikon uses. At best, you may be able to pick a better average focus point. The real issue is film flatness. There are options (3rd party) for using anti-Newton glass in the FH3 film strip holder. If slides, one would have to unmount and use a mount that will flatten out the film or mount in the FH3 with the glass.

I had terrible HUGE problems with the depth of field on the Nikon LS5000ED, could never get sharpness in the edges/corners.
Cleaned the objective and voila, sharp ALL over the picture. Just a tip.
